Chapter 2 Part 6: Murong Cheng and Son VS Miss Rose
Translated by Fei斐 & Proofread by Fanie and Iping

After falling asleep in a daze, I was suddenly awakened by the sound of a door slamming. I quickly got up and found that the bed opposite mine, Bai Lin's, was empty, so I hurriedly put on my overgarments and shoes, and followed her out.

When I went downstairs, I saw her running towards the low wall behind the girls' dorm compound. I wanted to stop her, but I was afraid of being caught, so I lowered my voice and called twice. Bai Lin didn't hear it, and walked straight to the bottom of the wall, preparing to climb over it.

She was taller than me, so it's easier for her to get over the wall. If she went out, I would be left alone and couldn't climb at all, so I hurriedly ran over and grabbed her ankle when she tried to climb up.

Bai Lin began to panic. After seeing that it was me, she breathed a sigh of relief, "Xiao Tong, you scared me to death."

I was angry, "You will be punished if you were caught!"

She was sitting on the top of the wall, with one foot held by me, and said to me condescendingly, "I can't sleep. I'll just go out and get some air."

"It's so late, how dangerous it is for a girl."

"It's okay, I used to do this when I was in high school."

"No." I insisted.

"Then what do you want?" Bai Lin surrendered.

"Then—" I thought for a while, "Then I will go with you."

After my words fell, she dragged me over the wall like a dead pig and walked out of the university gate openly.

I asked, "Where do you want to go?"

Bai Lin shrugged, "Just wander around."

That being said, there really wasn't many places to go shopping in this place where birds don't even lay eggs. The place where we often go to watch movies was also closed at this point of time. Thus, after walking around for a while, we decided to go to karaoke.

There were several karaoke rooms outside the South Gate of the West District. The quality level were not very high. Each room was calculated by hour, and the charges were acceptable to students. It would be more cost-effective to wrap the whole night together after ten o'clock. Thus before, on weekends and holidays, the four of us also had planned for singing at the Karaoke all night. Whenever I talked about this, the other girls in our class shook their heads and sighed,“Sure enough, everyone in 407 is a Maiba*.” So when Bai Lin decided to wrap up all night, I suddenly regretted that I didn’t call Song Qiqi and Zhao Xiaotang out together.

(*T/N: Maiba麦霸 means mic hog a.k.a. the person who monopolizes the mic at a karaoke party. 😂)

We ordered beer and sang while drinking. Bai Lin changed her usual style of pretending to be a lady, from "Being Loyal to the Country" to "Borrowing from Heaven for Five Hundred Years", and sang the last sentence, "I really want to live for another five hundred years."

(T/N: I guess those are song titles & lyrics. I'll search them up later on when I'm editing this.)

I snorted happily hearing what she had said and replied muddleheadedly, "Xiao Bai, your idea is completely correct. If you don't live for five hundred years, you will surely won't see the rapid development of (our) Chinese football."

After sharing a dozen of beers, Bai Lin gradually ran out of support and fell asleep on the sofa. I originally was a person who couldn't fall asleep anywhere but my bed. Besides, I just let her sang by herself. I haven’t enjoyed myself yet, so I took the microphone and sang alone. When I was singing in high spirits, "Love really needs courage, to believe that we will be together", several people opened the door and said, "Young girl, check your ID at the police station."

As a child, my mother taught me that things like ID cards must not be kept on me, but it needed to be kept in the safest drawer and locked up at the bottom of the box all together with the household registration book. It seemed like if you lose your ID card, you would become an unregistered illegal citizen and be expelled from Chinese nationality. Therefore, as a present-day college student, I had developed the habit of never carrying an ID card. The result was as one could well imagined.

The policeman sat in front of us, looking at me, and then at the drunk and unconscious Bai Lin beside me, not knowing what he was thinking.

"This karaoke bar is illegal, don't you know?"

I wanted to cry without tears, "Uncle Police, we have been here before, so there is no doubt. Besides, should I ask the boss for a business license to check before I come in?"

"Do you know that the person in the room next to you is taking illegal drugs?"

Illegal? drugs?

This sentence really scared me.

I shuddered, and hurriedly waved my hand and said, "I don't know, we don't (have illegal drugs)." Then I pointed at Bai Lin again, "She was drunk with beer, and it has nothing to do with taking drugs. Really, we are students of A University. ."

"Student?" The police stared.

This time, I knew we're doomed— a moment of carelessness.

"Students are still wandering outside so late?"

The police in uniform next to him shook his head, "Now you students are really getting more and more outrageous."

Finally, the two people discussed a conclusion, "Then tell your teacher to come and pick you up."

I was shocked and hurriedly admitted my mistake. If the school knew, it would still be OK, and I wouldn't even complain a thing about the punishment. However, if my mother knew about it, my leg might be broken (by her) on the spot. After I pitifully begged for a long time, the two policemen remained unwavering.

Bai Lin now slept like a dead pig, so I couldn't count on her anymore. All the responsibilities rested on my shoulders. I sat there, pretending to look through the teacher's number in my phone contact list, while trying to figure out an emergency solution. At this moment, I saw Mu Chenghe's name in the 'M' column of the contact list. This call was the last time I pretended to be Zhao Xiaotang and went to see that a netizen, then coincidentally met him (MCH), and he forcibly entered the number into the phone. My brain flashed brightly, and a certain idea sprouted.
